"Every word of God proves true. Do not add to his words, or he may rebuke you and expose you as a liar." Proverbs 30: 5-6 NLT
I read the entire Bible in 90 days. Yes, you read that correctly—I completed the entire Bible within a span of three months. Back in September 2023, my best friend Keisha and I spontaneously committed to reading the Bible. We followed the YouVersion Bible reading plan titled Every Word, a Reader’s 90-Day Guide to the Bible starting from September 2nd, 2023 to November 30th, 2023, I was a bit hesitant because I was returning to school after a long period of time and didn’t know if I would be able to devote myself to it. But nonetheless, I did it.
To say the least, it was a challenging journey. The beginning was promising—I read every day, enjoying every word. However, come November, I began to fall behind. It came about when I started the Gospel, it was repetitive. For those familiar with the structure, you know that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are pretty much similar but just with different wordings and added verses. While I want to emphasize that this shouldn’t serve as an excuse for falling behind, I’m genuinely acknowledging the struggle I faced during this time.
I wholeheartedly recommend that everyone read the Bible in its entirety. Duh, obviously. Remember, man, shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God (Mathew 4:4). Now, the often-heard excuse of not having enough time might surface. You don’t have time for God? *I am side-eying you right now* You don’t have time for your Lord and Savior but you have time to scroll through social media, you have time to binge-watch Netflix, you have time to play video games. Yet, you don’t have time for God. Right! The excuse of not having enough time doesn’t quite hold up when it comes to spending time with God. Prioritizing God amidst our busy lives is a choice we all can make.
Anyway, here are the five truths that I learned:
- The Bible is fascinating, providing plenty of revelation and wisdom.
- The Bible contains beautiful stories and is so rich in narratives. One thing I had to remember when reading the Bible is that these are real people, these events actually happened years and years ago. That’s what makes it even more interesting. As I was reading, the Holy Spirit was speaking through me about things in my life and the mighty and unsearchable mysteries of God. If you could just dedicate your time to spend it with God, you would see how He would speak to you and reveal himself to you. You would get to know His character and would have the immense desire to spend eternity with Him. If only you open up that Bible. If only.
- God will protect His name from any dishonor ensuring that He always receives the glory.
- One remarkable aspect of my God is His unwavering commitment to preserving the honor of His name. He will never let anyone disrespect his name. Throughout the Bible, we witness instances of people disrespecting Him, and blaspheming against Him; yet each time, He intervenes and corrects. A cherished passage, Psalm 23 verse 3, emphasizes, “He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness. For His name’s sake.” Do y’all hear this? For His name’s sake. God desires us to acknowledge and attribute glory to Him. In Psalm 106 verses 7 and 8, a parallel phrase is used: “When our ancestors were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea. Yet he saved them for his name’s sake, to make his mighty power known.” God’s actions serve both the purpose of showcasing His glory and ensuring our well-being (see Romans 8:28). Sometimes we react so cruel to God, but because of his faithfulness and for His name’s sake, he forgives us. He consistently acts in alignment with His revealed character, upholding the honor of His revelation among His people. Let this serve as a reminder, brethren, never to disrespect the name of your Heavenly Father and always to offer Him the glory He deserves, which is at all times.
- The vastness of God’s capabilities surpasses the limitations of our minds.
- Despite facing numerous challenges, Job remained steadfast in his faithfulness to God. He embodied the scripture from Micah 7:8: “Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.” And because of His name’s sake, God blessed him double for trouble. Who can truly comprehend the wisdom, the greatness, the power of God? Absolutely no one. There are questions that lack answers, and delving into the book of Job, particularly chapters 36 to 42, underscores the ungraspable nature of God. God is greater than we can ever understand, The greatness of His power is beyond our knowledge. As Job 37:23-24 emphasizes, “We cannot imagine the power of the Almighty; but even though he is just and righteous, he does not destroy us. No wonder people everywhere fear him. All who are wise show him reverence.” The Bible is filled with events like Mary’s virgin pregnancy, Ezekiel and the valley of dry bones, Noah’s flood, and Jesus’s miracles—instances that beyond our comprehension. God’s ways are far too wonderful for our small minds to ever comprehend.
- Never underestimate the power of faith.
- Faith serves as the activator for the fruition of your prayers. Across the Old and New Testaments, numerous examples testify that the activation of faith led to the outpouring of blessings. Abraham held steadfast in God’s promise that he would become the father of many nations, and both he and Sarah had faith in the expectation of having a son despite their age. Moses exhibited trust and belief in God’s promise of a land flowing with milk and honey for his people. The examples of healing are just as good; frequently in the Gospel, Jesus declared, “Your faith has healed you.”Hebrews 11: 6 tells us that “And without faith it is impossible to please God.” It’s time to cultivate that unwavering faith, even if it seems bold and daring. If it seems impossible, that’s how you know you doing it right. Drawing inspiration from Matthew 17:20, Jesus exclaims “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Perhaps your lack of faith is the obstacle hindering your prayers from being answered.
- God remains patient and faithful, despite human stubbornness.
- The patience and the faithfulness of God absolutely blows my mind and leave me in awe. The stubbornness of the Israelites made me roll my eyes way more than I should have. Yet, let’s not overlook our own human tendencies, we are completely the same. Sometimes we don’t even realize how stubborn we are to the will of God and his obedience, or impatient when we’re not living what we thought we would. But guess what? God remains unfailingly patient and faithful to us. If he says he was going to do something in your life, he will do it. Numbers 23:19 reinforces this, stating, “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” Embrace the truth that if God promises something in your life, He will fulfill it. One thing about my God is His unwavering faithfulness
I trust that these truths resonated with you, and I pray they inspire you to take on this challenge. Instead of being consumed by life’s meaningless distractions, challenge yourself to immerse in the Word. My prayer is that you develop a genuine desire to deepen your relationship with Him, to uncover more truths about His nature and His character. Allow me to pray for you:
Heavenly Father,
I come before your throne of grace with gratitude. Thank you for your Word, for the divine truth it freely offers. Thank you for revealing yourself to me, Father. Thank you for giving us a Holy Book so we can live according to your will. Knowing that Scripture is God-breathed and serves to teach, rebuke, correct, and train in righteousness, I pray that my life will be a reflection of your good work in me and that it evangelizes your amazing character. May I never be ashamed of you, may I proudly proclaim your greatness. May my mouth never get tired of giving you glory Lord. I pray that your light in me attracts your children to you Lord. Thank you for choosing me as a vessel for your divine plan. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray.
Amen
With love,
Carmaïssa
